President Muhammadu Buhari - Lack Of Development in Delta Should Be Addressed

President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to address the lack of developmental projects in oil-rich Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu council area of Delta State..

In an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, leaders of the kingdom who decried the poor state of affairs in the region, protested what they described as “deliberate and continued marginalization” of their area by the Federal Government.

They also called on the President to consider their indigenes for appointment into federal agencies and parastatals, adding that it will “give them a sense of belonging in the scheme of things”.

The letter which was dated July 24 was signed by Chief Igere Williams, as well as 12 other leaders of the Kingdom.

It pointed out that the kingdom, under the leadership of His Royal Majesty Joseph Timiyan, is one of the highest producers of crude oil in Nigeria, and as such ought to benefit from federal government’s developmental initiatives

They listed oil and gas assets in Ogulagha Kingdom to include the Forcados Tank Farm and Oil Terminal, Crude Oil Export Loading Platform and several flow stations, operated by oil multinationals and indigenous firms.

“These companies and their facilities have been on the land of Ogulagha Kingdom for several years and would be there for a long time to come,” the letter stated.

Other issues mentioned in the letter include “right of first refusal” for oil fields bidding, “execution of shore protection” in areas where the lands are being washed away, as well as construction of a bridge that will connect the kingdom to the city of Warri.
